Gamification for Student Management and Motivation using google apps
This session focuses on the new trend of "gamifying" the classroom experiences of students. Specifically, for this session, the "gamification" approach is employed as a classroom management and motivation strategy that teachers of all subject areas and grade levels can adapt in their classes. What makes this more exciting and efficient for the part of the teacher is the use of Google Apps for Education, such as Google Forms, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Google Forms and Sheets help in facilitating students' self evaluation and reflection. Google Slides becomes an instrument that shows students their progress in class.

More than the play aspect of this approach, collaboration and teamwork is emphasized. The use of GAFE will then help the teacher to spend more time with the students. Attendees will be given the chance to simulate this "Gamified" and "Googlefied" framework.

It’s our genuine desire to help people communicate that sparks us to create smart, friendly support technologies that enable young people to read and write with confidence.

In this session, participants will learn more about common assistive technology supports such as text-to-speech, word prediction, text and picture dictionaries, annotations and more that can help students who struggle with reading and writing.

Attendees will also see demonstrations of these tools in Read&Write for Google™, a cloud-based solution that works with Google Documents, Web pages, and other common file types, such as PDF, ePub files in Google Drive. These tools can be used through the Chrome browser on PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks.

All session attendees will get a free copy of the software.

Getting Certified! Becoming a ‘Google Educator’ and ‘Google Education Trainer’
In this session I will give an overview of the Google certification options for Education, starting with explaining the differences and establishing which one is right for you.

Next I help answer the question ‘Why should I become certified?’, looking at what it can do for your career, networking opportunities and learning growth with Google tools.

I aim to fit a lot into the hour session and leave you with a clear roadmap of the steps you need to take to get certified to help make it a bit less intimidating. Topics I cover include:
The exams: I go over the exams and show how with the proper preparation and approach they are not to be feared.

The case study: To become a Certified Trainer you plan and execute a training engagement and I take you through how to approach this task for success.

Google have recently revamped the certification process in January 2014 and I give you the most up to date information on the current requirements.

App-edagogy
For most of us who honed our instructional craft on the wrong side of the digital divide, a proper emphasis on sound pedagogy is commensurate with professionalism. Taking the proverbial leap into an educational world now immersed with technology may at times seem like reckless abandon. It need not be. Come hear one Principal's journey into the use of educational technology (specifically Google Apps) and learn how to respond to those who claim we are experimenting with students’ futures. All students, the digital immigrant and native, learn in the same way, the brain-friendly way. This workshop will equip you to help your teachers stay faithful to lessons teeming with apps that serve as hooks, instructional strategies, guided practice opportunities and stimulating ways to assess and close out lessons. In addition, you will be given an opportunity to collaborate with other participants to create such a lesson, enabling you to walk away with renewed confidence that Google Apps indeed enhance and further sound pedagogy.
